Im looking to buy a house that needs a good amount of work. I dont have extra money to pay for the remodeling. But I have read that i can possibly get some sort of home improvement mortgage that will give me extra money to fix up the house. Rather than buying the house and then having to get a reappraisal and then a home equity loan.

I’m considering upgrading our formica countertops to granite and installing vinyl fencing to enclose our backyard. Would this count as a home improvement and would I be able to deduct this on next year’s taxes or only when I sell the home?

I want hardwood floors, so I went to the 2 popular home improvement stores in Chicago (H.D and Lws). One had a very limited selection of hardwood floors and both were outrageous when it came to price. Is there any place in Chicago that is cheaper?

I have signed a contract to have a home improvement company install cabinet doors, they gave me 3 days to break the contract which I did not do. Now my finances have been destroyed, and I cannot proceed with the project. I cancelled the project before they gave me an installation date. They say that I HAVE TO proceed. Do I have to? I can’t. I have paid no money so far.

I live in a duplex and the people on the other side are in the middle of some major home improvement escapade.

They’re hammering and sawing and apparently ripping the floor up. They’ve been doing this ALL day and they aren’t showing any signs of stopping…in fact, their friends just came over to help.

I don’t wanna be rude, but I have to get up at 6 AM and I kinda need to sleep. Would it be really rude of me to go over and ask them to stop?
